Queen Nehushta was the wife of King Jehoiakim (r. 609-598 BC), and mother of King Jehoiachin of Judah.
She was the daughter of Elnathan from Jerusalem.
When King Josiah died in the Battle at Megiddo (c. 609 BC), Pharaoh Necho II, son of Psamtik I (r. 664-610 BC), made Eliakim, brother of Jehoahaz, king over Judah and Jerusalem and changed Eliakim’s name to Jehoiakim (r. 609-598 BC).
Jehoahaz was taken to Egypt as a prisoner.
After three years, Jehoiakim rebelled and lost his life in 598 BC. His son, Jehoiachin (r. 597 BC), became the next king of Judah.
Jehoiakim’s mother was Zebidah, wife of King Josiah (r. 640-609 BC).
King Nebuchadnezzar II (r. 605-562 BC), son of Nabopolassar (r. 626-605 BC) and Shuadamqa of Babylon, deposed King Jehoiachin, and installed Jehoiachin’s uncle Mattaniah, changing his name to Zedekiah (r. 597-586 BC).
After 37 years in prison, Jehoiachin was released by King Amel-Marduk (r. 562-560 BC), son of Nebuchadnezzar II.
The Kingdom of Judah was defeated by the Babylonians in 586 BC and carried into captivity.
The Kingdom of Israel had been defeated by the Assyrians in 722 BC during the reigns of Shalmaneser V (r. 726-722 BC) then Sargon II (r. 721-705 BC).
King Cyaxares of Media died the year following Judah’s defeat, and was succeeded by his son, Astyages (r. 585-550 BC).
Astyages was the father of Queen Mandane of Media, mother of King Cyrus the Great (r. 559-530 BC).
Astyages was then succeeded by his grandson, Cyrus the Great, founder of the Persian Achaemenid Empire (r. 550-330 BC).
Cyaxares’ daughter, Amytis, was the wife of Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar II (r. 605-572 BC)... the reigning king of Babylonia when the Kingdom of Judah was defeated.
Centuries later, Jesus would be crucified in Jerusalem (c. 33 AD).
