Queen Meshullemeth was the wife of King Manasseh (r. 697-642 BC), and mother of King Amon of Judah (r. 642-640 BC).
She was the daughter of Haruz from Jotbah.
Queen Meshullemeth’s husband, Manasseh, was the son of King Hezekiah of Judah (r. 728-686 BC) and Queen Hephzibah.
Practically during the entire reign of Manasseh, Judah was a tribute-paying province of the Assyrians. The situation began under Tiglath-pileser III when the Assyrian came to the help of Ahaz against Pekah of the Kingdom of Israel and Rezin of Syria.
King Hezekiah ruled over Judah from Jerusalem for twenty-nine years. He rebelled against the king of Assyria and refused to pay him tribute.
In the fourteenth year of Hezekiah’s reign, King Sennacherib (r. 704-681 BC), son of Sargon II (r. 721-705 BC), came to attack the fortified towns of Judah.
Hezekiah agreed to pay 300 talents of silver and 30 talents of gold as tribute to Assyria to avoid a siege of Jerusalem.
Assyrian records list Manasseh among twenty-two kings required to provide materials for Assyrian king Esarhaddon's building projects.
Sennacherib’s son, Esarhaddon (r. 680-669 BC), also names Manasseh as one of a number of vassals who assisted his campaign against Egypt.
Pharaoh Taharqa (r. 690-664 BC) was the son of Cushite king Piankhi and Queen Abar.
As a prince Taharqa was put in command of the combined Cushite-Egyptian army by Pharaoh Shebitku, Piankhi’s successor.
Taharqa defeated the Assyrians at the Battle of Eltekeh (c. 701 BC).
Eleven years later Taharqa ascended the throne of Cush and Egypt. In 677 BC, Assyrian King Esarhaddon declared war on Egypt.
When Queen Meshullemeth’s son, Amon died, her grandson Josiah (r. 640-609 BC) succeeded him as king.
Centuries later, Jesus would be crucified in Jerusalem (c. 33 AD).
