Queens & Consorts of 18th Dynasty Egypt: Tiaa, wife of Amenhotep II (r. 1427-1397 BC)

Queen Tiaa is known as the wife of Pharaoh Amenhotep II (r. 1427-1397 BC), and mother of Thutmose IV (r. 1397-1388 BC), his successor. Her parentage is unknown.

Her husband, Amenhotep II, was the son of Thutmose III (r. 1479-1425 BC) and Merytre-Hatshepsut.

Amenhotep II’s father, Thutmose III, was the son of Thutmose II (r. 1493-1479 BC) and Iset.

Thutmose III was the sixth pharaoh of 18th Dynasty Egypt, Amenhotep II the seventh pharaoh, and Thutmose IV the eighth pharaoh.

During the final two years of his reign after the death of his firstborn son and heir Amenemhat, Thutmose III appointed his son and successor Amenhotep II (r. 1427-1397 BC) as junior co-regent.

Thutmose III's victory at Megiddo gave him control of northern Canaan from which he would launch his campaign into Syria to take Kadesh. He campaigned against the Mitanni and erected a stele at the Euphrates River, commemorated in his inscription at Karnak, known as Thutmose III's Hymn of Victory.

Amenhotep II’s mother, Merytre-Hatshepsut, was the daughter of Huy, an ancient High Priestess of Amun, Ra, and Atum.

Tiaa was the mother of Amenhotep II’s son, Thutmose IV (r. 1397-1388 BC).

Amenhotep II also fathered Amenhotep (prince), Webensenu (prince), Amenemopet (prince), Nedjem (prince), Iaret (queen), Ahmose (prince), and possibly Khaemwaset  (prince) and Aaheperkare.

His daughter, Iaret, would become a wife of Pharaoh Thutmose IV (r. 1397-1388 BC). Along with his other children, Thutmose IV had a daughter named Tiaa after her paternal grandmother.

Her siblings were Amenhotep III (pharaoh), Amenemhat (prince), Amenemopet (princess), Petepihu (princess), Tentamun (princess), and possibly Siatum (prince).
