Queens & Consorts of 18th Dynasty Egypt: Ahmose-Meritamun, wife of Amenhotep I (r. 1524-1503 BC)

Ahmose-Meritamun of Egypt was the daughter of Ahmose I (c. 1549-1524 BC) and Ahmose-Nefertari.

Her husband and brother was Pharaoh Amenhotep I (c. 1524-1503 BC). He married another sister, Sitkamose.

Both of Ahmose-Meritamun’s parents were children of Seqenenre Tao (r. 1558-1555 BC) and Ahhotep I.

Ahmose-Meritamun’s father, Ahmose I, completed the conquest and expulsion of the Hyksos. Ultimately, he reunified Egypt, and founded the 18th Dynasty and the New Kingdom.

Ahmose-Meritamun’s mother, Ahmose-Nefertari, was also the mother of Ahmose-ankh, Siamun, and Ahmose-Sitamun. She was likely the mother of Ramose and Mutnofret.

Ahmose-Meritamun died fairly young, and had no reported offsprings. It has been suggested that she was the mother of Queen Ahmose, wife of Thutmose I (r. 1503-1493 BC).

Ahmose-Meritamun’s husband, Pharaoh Amenhotep I, was succeeded by Thutmose I (r. 1503-1493 BC), who was then succeeded by Thutmose II (r. 1493-1479 BC).
